What is the emphasis at Stairway College?
The heart of Stairway College is to grow a movement of relentless love, by inviting people into a lifestyle of prayer and worship, justice and discipleship.
I work during the day (or night), can still I be part of Stairway College?
Definitely. Our Full-time Course runs during the daytime and our Individual Courses run on weeknights along with some Saturday intensives.
What times do classes run?
The Individual Courses are on Tuesday or Thursday nights from 7-10pm with some Saturday intensives running from 9-5pm. We have a Ministry Stream subjects, Arts Stream subjects, Masterclass subjects and well as Internships available.
The Full-time Course is on Mondays and Tuesday all day from 9:30am to 4:30pm
Is it expensive?
For Individual Courses a single subject is $275, Part Time (four subjects) is $995, Full Time (8 subjects) is $1845, 1st year Internship $2195, 2nd year internship $1195.
For our Full-time Course fees are $4500 for a single, $8500 for a couple, $2900 for 18-20 year olds. There is a 10% early-bird discount for full payment before 1/12/2017.
What qualification do you offer?
Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology. We chose to offer the Certificate IV as it allows us to be highly flexible, practicle and to experience the supernatural in a variety of ways.
How many subjects do I need to do to attain the certificate?
With Individual Courses, to attain a Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology you must complete eight accredited subjects. The eight subjects must consist of six core subjects and two electives (one from each elective group).
With the Full-time Course you must complete all the subjects in the program
Do I have to complete the qualification in one year?
With Individual Courses, you are welcome to complete the certificate over a number of years. We recommend that students aim to complete it within three years.
With the Full-time Course, you must complete the course in one year
What is the benefit of the qualification?
It is a nationally recognised qualification that is recognised as certificate four level standard and quality. We have had some students move into positions in their church, chaplaincy at their local school and gained roles in other Christian based organisations.
Is there much homework?
For Individual Courses, most of the subjects have between two and four assessment tasks. How long they take to complete varies depending upon the subject and the student.
For the Full-time Course, assessment is built into the weekly journal that we are asking the participants to keep, as well as assignments.
As a general rule we recommend students put aside 1-3 hours per subject per week for homework.
Do I need to purchase any books?
When you come to class you will be given a student manual. While we do have suggested books for our students there is generally no expectation that you will purchase additional books.
How can I Apply?
For Individual Courses you simply register online before the course begins through the Apply page.
For the Full-time Course, there is an application process that includes a phone interview and pastoral references. The process begins at the Full-time Apply page.
For International Students, the application process can often take several months. The first step is to Apply online. Like all full-time applicants, we will schedule a phone interview and pastoral references will be requested. Once you have been accepted to Stairway College, there is a secondary student visa application process that can take a number of months.
With the Individual Courses, is it an option to do some of the subjects in the Arts Stream instead of a couple in the Ministry Stream but still do eight subjects overall for the year and still receive the certificate?
Yes it is possible to select Arts Steam and Ministry stream subjects. Choose what you would like to do and when you register you will be given access to the student handbook which will outlines what subjects are aligned with what competencies in the certificate. At this time check that you do not double up on any competencies and can attain the certificate. If you do find a double up just the College know and we can assist you.
What are Masterclass subjects?
Masterclass subjects are an opportunity to go deeper. They are a continuation of selected Ministry and Arts stream subjects that allow students to expand upon their knowledge, skills and experience. Masterclass subjects are not accredited.
Can I register for Ministry Stream, Arts Stream and Masterclass subjects?
With Individual Courses, you are welcome to choose whatever subjects you would like to, however, in order to attain the certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology you must complete eight accredited subjects (six core and two electives) - Masterclass subjects are not accredited and therefore do not count towards the certificate. Note: Masterclass subjects also have prerequisites.
